Adelaide WTA 500: Brazil’s Stefani wins first doubles title in 2023
The duo made up of Brazilian Luisa Stefani and the US Taylor Towsend won the Adelaide International WTA 500 tennis tournament, in Australia, in the early hours of Friday (Jan. 13). This is Stefani’s first doubles title this year.
In their first time together, Stefani and Towsend excelled on court by defeating Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Kazakh Elena Rybakina by two sets to zero, 7/5 and 7/6 (7–3). Ranking 47th worldwide, the Brazilian is should leap 13 positions and reach 34th place in the updated ranking next Monday (16).
The Brazilian will play the Australian Open with Caty McNally, who was runner-up last year at the US Open alongside Towsend. The doubles matches will be defined next week. The first of the four Grand Slam of the season starts Sunday (15).
