The Lula Institute release a note on Friday (July 31) reporting that its headquarters in São Paulo were attacked at around 10p.m. on Thursday (July 30). According to the institution, an explosive device was thrown at the building from a car. No one was hurt.

The Institute reported the event to the civil and military police, to Alexandre de Morais –  Secretariat of Public Security of the state of São Paulo – and to the Ministry of Justice, José Eduardo Cardozo.

In the note released on social networks, the Institute reports it “expects the perpetrators to be identified and punished.”

The State Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo released a note confirming the attack on the institute's headquarters. According to the note, the property damages were small. The Civil Police of the state was driven to investigate the case.

The Ministry of Justice, José Eduardo Cardozo, asked the Federal Police to collaborate in the bombing investigation. Cardozo announced that as soon as he was informed about the case, he reported it to the general director of the Federal Police, Leandro Daiello, to “check if it is possible for the Federal Police to do something." He wants the institution to dialogue with São Paulo authorities so that they can, within their competence, analyze what happened and take the necessary measures.

According to the minister, some protective measures may be necessary for the institute, given the hypothesis of political attack on the place where the former President of the Republic Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva works.
