Another body engulfed by mud found in Minas Gerais
Minas Gerais Fire Department reported today (Nov. 10) that another body has been identified, after two dams collapsed in the town of Mariana, in Minas Gerais state. Emanuele Vitória Fernandes, 5, lived in Bento Rodrigues village and went missing last Thursday (Nov. 5), the day the tragedy occurred.
The number of confirmed deaths related to the collapsed dams has risen to four. The first victim died of a heart attack on the day of the accident. Another corpse is still waiting for identification to confirm whether the death was related to the tragedy.
The number of missing people has risen to 22, including 11 employees working for Samarco mining company at the moment the dams collapsed. Eleven are residents of Bento Rodrigues village, which was engulfed by millions of cubic meters of mud.
Earthquakes
A 2.1 Richter scale earthquake occurred today (Nov. 10) in the area where the dams burst on Thursday (Nov. 5).
Minas Gerais Fire Department said the earthquake did not affect the routine of the task force for search and rescue of victims in Bento Rodrigues village.
According to the department, the tremor has caused no change to the structure of two other dams Samarco-Germano and Santarém. The fire department reported that the company installed three seismographs in strategic points of the dams, as a precaution.
