Over 500,000 Olympics tickets to be released for sale
There are just fewer than 190 days to go until the Rio 2016 Olympics
About 500,000 tickets for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games—including the most coveted events, like finals and semi-finals—will be sold online at www.rio2016.com/ingressos from 10am on the next two days. Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics will be on sale too.
According to Donovan Ferreti, Ticketing Director for the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, this will be the last large ticket sale for the competition.
On Thursday (Jan. 21), in addition to the offerings for the opening and closing ceremonies, men's and women's football tickets will be sold in all host cities. Other sports with tickets on sale tomorrow include swimming, athletics, handball, water polo, equestrian events, and archery.
On Friday (22) from 10 am, tickets for the semifinal, final and other matches of popular sports including basketball, volleyball, and beach volleyball will be on sale. On that day, spectators can also buy tickets for artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline gymnastics, as well as track cycling and diving.
Ferreti explained that most of these tickets are being made available as part of a contingency release. “At some arenas, we had planned for larger camera platform and TV equipment spaces. This had blocked seating areas that have now been freed up for spectator viewing”, he said.
The 2016 Olympic Games will take place on August 5-21.
