In a crackdown conducted today (Jul 25) as part of Operation Glasnost, the Brazilian Federal Police served court warrants to fight the sexual exploitation of children and stop online child pornography.

Orders add up 72 for search and seizure, three for preventive arrest, and two for police questioning. A total of 350 police were engaged in the operation, conducted in 14 of the 26 Brazilian states.

The investigation was made possible through the monitoring of a Russian website used as a meeting point for pedophiles from several countries. Investigators identified a number of people, both Brazilian and foreign, who shared child pornography material, as well as sex abusers and producers of such material.

“The suspects produced and stored photos and videos of children, adolescents, and even toddlers, many of whom being sexually abused by adults. They would send them to connections in Brazil and overseas,” the police note reads.

The operation was named after the Russian term for transparency. The crackdown this Tuesday comes as followup to the operation launched in November 2013, when 80 court orders were served, among them 30 arrests in flagrante delicto for possession of child pornography. Several child abusers were identified and arrested, and victims rescued aged five to nine years old.
