Avianca Brasil has all operations suspended
Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) today (May 24) announced the precautionary suspension of all operations at air carrier Avianca Brasil.
“The measure suspends all flights until the company demonstrates it is capable of carrying out operations with safety. The decision was based on information granted to the agency’s operational safety department,” Anac’s note reads.
Anac advises passengers with flights booked for the coming days to contact the carrier and attempt to get further information before going to the airport. The company is still responsible for offering passengers options like refund and lodging.
Re-organization
Avianca Brasil has filed a request for a court-supervised re-organization. The carrier has called off a number of flights and returned aircraft in April following court rulings which granted petitions from leasing firms.
On May 17, Avianca Brasil crew workers went on strike, which was temporarily suspended on May 19. The employees argued the activities were interrupted because of a delay in pay and benefits.
