Mercosur countries will ink an agreement to end roaming charges between people residing in them. The term will be signed at a meeting during at the 24th Mercosur summit, to be held in Santa Fe, Argentina, this week.

The announcement was made by Brazil’s nation telecom agency Anatel, who worked alongside the Foreign Ministry in talks with watchdogs in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

Services no longer charged will include voice services (both for mobile and landlines), as well as texting and data. No estimate has given as to when the change will be effected.

As it stands today, nearly all plans sold in Brazil are limited to the country’s territory. When a Brazilian national flies to Uruguay or Argentina, for example, they must pay an extra fee for roaming.
