Nine Brazil airports among world’s most punctual
A yearly report by UK consultancy OAG, which evaluates aviation across the world, classified nine Brazilian airports as among the world’s most punctual. The ranking lists the 20 most punctual airports in the categories small (2.5 million to 5 million departures a year), medium (5 million to 10 million), large (10 million to 20 million), very large (20 million to 30 million), and mega large (over 30 million).
Among the Brazilian terminals, the Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo, showed the best performance and ranked seven under mega large, preceded only by the airports of Detroit, US; Minneapolis/St Paulo, US; and Istambul Sabiha Gocen, Turkey—the most punctual on the planet. Also noteworthy were the airports of Brasília, which came fourth, and that of Congonhas, 12th, under large.
The terminals of Fortaleza (11th) and Curitiba (18th) stood out among small airports. Under medium, Recife (7th), Rio de Janeiro – Galeão (9th), Belo Horizonte – Confins (10th), and Rio de Janeiro – Santos Dumont (15th) were prominent on the list.
Assessed were 57.7 million flights and 250 of the air companies with the highest number of flights. OAG’s criterion for punctuality requires planes to take off and land with a delay of 15 minutes max. Canceled flights reduce a company’s or airport’s punctuality.
