Brazilian consumers can now file, in Portuguese, complaints about conflicts arising from international consumer relations, including tourism. The international platform Econsumer now has a version in Brazil.

According to information from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, through the website "Brazilian consumers will be able to receive guidance on additional measures they can adopt to solve their problem and tips on how to avoid the most practiced scams and frauds".

In September of last year, the Ministry, through the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), signed an agreement to join the platform, to provide yet another protection mechanism for Brazilian consumers, in order to safeguard cross-border consumer relations and allow that Brazil cooperate effectively with other countries and international organizations.

As it is an international platform, consumers will not always have their complaints effectively dealt with by a national body, but the registration of complaints allows governments and protection agencies to identify trends in fraud and misleading practices and formulate public policies to combat them.

Econsumer.gov also presents statistics that guide public policy. It is administered by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the United States and belongs to member countries of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN).
