Pelé back in hospital to resume treatment of colon tumor
Three-time world champion Pelé has once again been admitted to São Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital to resume treatment of a colon tumor. Brazil’s king of football himself talked about the hospitalization on his social media Sunday (Feb. 13). Pelé expressed gratitude to fans and said in a cheerful mood he would be watching the NFL final despite the absence of his friend Tom Brady—the quarterback had recently announced his retirement.
In September last year, the 81-year-old Athlete of the Century underwent a surgery to remove a colon tumor, detected during routine tests. On December 8, the star, who played for both Santos and the Brazilian squad, returned to Albert Einstein Hospital for the last sessions of chemotherapy of 2021. After a break for the holidays, Pelé resumed his visits to the hospital in January for more treatment.
