Forest+Amazon Project receives applications for sustainable projects
The Forest+Amazon Project, run by the Environment Ministry in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will receive applications until June 10 for forest preservation and recovery projects in the nine states of the Legal Amazon, the Ministry´s secretary for the Amazon and Environmental Services Marta Giannichi said in an interview with the state radio program A Voz do Brasil, on Monday (Jun. 6).
At this stage, farmers, indigenous people, and quilombolas in the region will be able to make suggestions about territorial management, recovery of native species, and preservation of sustainable production chains.
“These projects are geared towards local communities. If you are part of an extractive community in the Amazon and you have great ideas of how to improve the forest, you can put them on paper and the best ones will be selected. Farmers, quilombolas, and indigenous people are covered,” said Marta.
Another stage of the project called Forest+Recovery, also receives applications for recovery and preservation projects to be financed by the ministry in partnership with UNDP. Projects by small farmers that have land between 75 and 80 hectares in the region and that promote permanent actions to reduce, in a sustainable and efficient way, the use of natural resources can apply for the initiative. These producers will receive project funds and will be constantly monitored to keep the actions in place.
