Samba with the hands: plot of SP schools is translated into Libras
The 22 sambas-enredo of the São Paulo carnival schools will be made available in the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The first translation released was that of the current champion of the special group, Mancha Verde. The 7th edition of Samba com as Mãos is a partnership between the Municipal Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities and the Independent League of Samba Schools of São Paulo (Liga-SP).
The videos will be released in the order of the parades at the Sambódromo do Anhembi, which take place on the 17th, 18th and 19th of February. The proposal is that, by the beginning of Carnival, all content will be available to the deaf community. The novelty this year is the inclusion of sambas from the schools of the Access Group 1.
Before recording, there is the research and interpretation phase. According to the secretariat, the study is necessary, as many lyrics use words of African origin and popular sayings, which requires a joint effort between the translator and the author of the song to preserve the context. Deaf people accompany the entire project.
