Paraguayan President Santiago Peña was discharged Tuesday morning (Nov. 19). He had been admitted last night to the Samaritano Botafogo Hospital, in South Rio, after feeling chest pain during the G20 leaders’ meeting at the Museum of Modern Art, also in South Rio.

At the hospital, he underwent tests that ruled out heart problems or any serious illness.

“The Samaritano Botafogo hospital reports that Mr. Santiago Peña, president of Paraguay, was admitted early yesterday evening (Nov. 18). Tests were carried out and heart disease and any other serious pathology were ruled out,” the hospital said in a statement.

The note adds that Santiago was monitored by the medical team throughout the night and showed stable indicators, which led to him being discharged.

“The head of state was discharged from hospital early this morning with medical instructions and has been cleared to continue with his schedule. The institution remains at his disposal,” the medical team at Hospital Samaritano Botafogo concluded.
