Brazilian tourists to inject BRL 148B into the economy during summer
Just over a third of Brazilians intend to travel in the summer and inject BRL 148.3 billion into the economy, a survey released by the Ministry of Tourism revealed. The study, dubbed Tendências de turismo verão 2025 – Comportamento da população brasileira (“Summer Tourism Trends 2025 – The Behavior of the Brazilian Population”), found that 59 million people (35 percent of the country’s population) plan to travel for leisure from December 2024 to February 2025.
The contribution of domestic tourism to the economy was calculated on the basis of average spending, which is set to rise this year. According to the survey, each Brazilian tourist intends to spend an average of BRL 2,514 this summer—up 34 percent on the previous summer, when the average was BRL 1,877.
Carried out in partnership with Nexus Pesquisa e Inteligência de Dados, the survey showed that 97 percent of Brazilian travelers chose a domestic destination. The beach remains the main attraction of the season, cited by 54 percent of those interviewed. In second place are spots linked to nature and ecotourism (10%), followed by adventure and health/well-being attractions, both categories with five percent each.
“The average spending by travelers grew by 34 percent, from BRL 1,800 to 2,500. The expectation of economic growth is extraordinary, with tourism generating over BRL 148 billion for our economy. Sunny locations and beaches are the Brazilians’ most sought-after destinations, but of course everyone is interested in getting to know the cuisine and tourist attractions all over Brazil,” Tourism Minister Celso Sabino said in a video released by the ministry.
The average length of a trip this season is 12 days. Factors such as natural beauty, low prices, and the chance to meet up with relatives and friends were among the main reasons for choosing a tourist destination.
In November, the Ministry of Tourism announced that Brazil will have 184 thousand flights during the summer, up 17.8 thousand (10.7%) from last season. The number of seats will rise to 29.8 million, a surge of 3.2 million (12%) year on year. The initiative is part of a partnership between the ministry and the main Brazilian airlines to broaden access to tourism and meet demand during vacations.
