The seventh flight under operation Voltando em Paz (“Returning in Peace”)—aimed at bringing Brazilians home from Israel—landed in Rome, Italy, in the early hours Tuesday morning (Oct. 17) and is awaiting authorization to continue on to Tel Aviv to rescue more people.
On board the plane are two doctors, two psychologists, and two nurses who will work to transport the returnees safely from the conflict areas in Israel.
The Brazilian Air Force KC-30 aircraft took off from Galeão Air Base in Rio de Janeiro at 5:23 pm yesterday Brasília time, and should return to Tom Jobim Galeão International Airport next Thursday at 2:30 am.
Another Air Force plane is waiting in Rome for the opening of the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt so it can take back to Brazil the 28 people who were in Palestinian territory and have requested repatriation.
On Sunday, another 215 Brazilians landed, including nine babies. This brings the number of Brazilians rescued from the conflict zone to over 900.
The government provided an online form to identify those wishing to return to Brazil. Over 2,700 have shown interest.
