Plane with 221 Brazilians repatriated from Lebanon lands in São Paulo
On Tuesday morning (Oct. 29), a Brazilian Air Force plane carrying 221 repatriated Brazilians from Lebanon landed at the São Paulo Air Base in Guarulhos. This marks the ninth flight to bring Brazilians back from the conflict zone in Lebanon.
Operation Cedar Roots, responsible for the repatriation efforts, began on October 2. To date, over 1,800 Brazilians and their families have been evacuated from the conflict zone. The operation relies on aircraft and Air Force personnel, coordinated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Brazil´s government, approximately 20,000 Brazilians reside in Lebanon, with at least 3,000 expressing a desire to return to Brazil.
At the end of September, Israeli bombings in Lebanon resulted in the deaths of two Brazilian teenagers: Mirna Raef Nasser, 16, and Ali Kamal Abdallah, 15.
Since the beginning of the current war in the Gaza Strip last year between Israel and Hamas—an ally of Hezbollah—both Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in border attacks.
