X informs Supreme Court of commitment to pay BRL 28.6M in fines

On Tuesday (Oct. 1), social network X informed Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes that it will pay fines totaling BRL 28.6 million to resume operations in Brazil.
The network's defense statement was issued after Moraes announced new determinations on Friday (Sep. 27) to release the network's operation in Brazil.
According to X, the total fines amount to BRL 18 million that were blocked in the accounts of both X and Starlink, a company also owned by Elon Musk, along with BRL 10 million for access granted via the Cloudflare platform, and BRL 300,000 imposed on lawyer Rachel Villa Nova, the network's legal representative.
In the same ruling, the minister reaffirmed that the Central Bank of Brazil and the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) must adhere to his earlier decision requiring the unblocking of X's accounts.
Last week, X's lawyers requested that the minister approve their representation in Brazil and appoint a lawyer to serve as the company's legal representative in the country.
Moraes suspended X's operations last month, after the company shut down its Brazilian office, a mandatory requirement for any firm seeking to operate in the country.
