Six elect governors are already known

With the counting of votes still ongoing in many of the 14 Brazilian states where the governor elections were drawn to a second round, the next governors of six states are already known.

In Rio de Janeiro, with 95.9% of ballots already counted, Luiz Fernando Pezão (of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, or PMDB), is mathematically the elected candidate for a four-year term in office.

In the capital city, Brasília, Rodrigo Rollemberg (Brazilian Socialist Party, PSB) is the newly-elect governor of the Federal District. He announced that his first steps will be to improve the administration and take “extreme” action to make the government more accountable to its acts. For this purpose, he said he will set up an accountability council right from the early weeks of his administration, consisting of common citizens of the civil society. After all ballots were fully counted, Rollemberg had 55.56% of the valid votes.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, Reinaldo Azambuja (Brazilian Social Democracy Party, PSDB) is mathematically the elect governor. And in the Amazon state of Amapá, Waldez Goés (PDT) is also mathematically elect with 60.8% of the valid votes.

In Rio Grande do Sul, Ivo Sartori (PMDB) won for governor with 61.23% of valid votes, defeating Tarso Genro (Workers' Party, PT).

In Goiás, Central-West region, Marconi Perillo of the PSDB finished ahead of Iris Rezende (PMDB) and is the elect governor.
