A large majority of Brazilians (about 90%) have been following the recent developments in the corruption scandal investigated under the Federal Police “Car Wash” Operation and believe the politicians named by the Attorney General in a list submitted to the Supreme Court (STF) were actually involved in wrongdoing. However, 65% do not expect the culprits will be punished.

The finding is part of a poll commissioned by the National Confederation of Transport from MDA polling institute. Besides the large-scale graft scandal involving Petrobras, the survey covered the approval ratings of President Dilma Rousseff.

According to the poll, more than half of respondents (57.4%) believe that the federal government will not be able to fight corruption.

The poll was carried out with 2,002 people in 137 municipalities across 25 states between March 16 and 19. Respondents were also asked about the anti-government and anti-corruption protests on March 15. While 96.1% of respondents said they did not take part in the demonstrations, 83.2% were favorable to the protests.
