Supreme Court considers appeal filed by the opposition party PPS against Justice Minister Wellington César Lima e Silva remaining in office. Dorivam Marinho/STF

A majority of Supreme Court (STF) justices voted Wednesday (Mar. 9) to dismiss Justice Minister Wellington César Lima e Silva. Ten out of the 11 members of the Court voted to uphold the appeal filed by the opposition party PPS and considered that Silva was not eligible to take office because he holds a position with the State Public Prosecution Office of Bahia.

According to the votes, Wellington César Lima e Silva and prosecutors or attorneys who hold position with the State government should leave office within 20 days.

Currently, according to the Attorney-General's Office (AGU), 22 members of the Public Prosecution Office are suspended from their duties to fulfill functions in government's departments.
