Brazil Supreme Court requested to decide on Temer's impeachment proceedings
Federal Supreme Court (STF) Justice Marco Aurélio Mello has authorized a case to go to trial in an en banc session requesting the initiation of impeachment proceedings against acting President Michel Temer. Supreme Court Chief Justice Ricardo Lewandowski is now responsible for setting a date for the case to go to trial.
Last month, Marco Aurélio issued an injunction (interim decision) ordering then Lower House Speaker Eduardo Cunha to initiate the proceedings against Temer in the Chamber of Deputies, which is the first to accept impeachment petitions against presidents and vice-presidents.
Injunction
In the same interim decision, the justice ordered to form a special committee in the Chamber of Deputies to consider the case, in response to a petition filed by attorney Mariel Marley Marra against Cunha for not moving forward the request to initiate impeachment proceedings against the then vice-president.
On the request, filed on March 29 at the Supreme Court, Marra stated that Temer should be included in Dilma Rousseff's impeachment proceedings for understanding that there is evidence that the then vice-president had also committed crimes of responsibility.
