The Workers' Party issued a statement this Thursday (Sep. 22) stating that the arrest of former minister Guido Mantega was a "Federal Police spectacle" that caused "widespread outrage" at lawmakers and people connected to the party. Mantega had been temporarily detained this morning, as part of the 34th stage of Operation Car Wash, dubbed the X-Files. After some time, federal judge Sergio Moro revoked the arrest, declaring that there was no need to keep the former minister under custody, as he could no longer interfere in evidence collection.

In the note, National Chairman of Workers' Party (PT) Rui Falcão said that Mantega's arrest was "arbitrary, inhumane and unnecessary." Rui Falcão noted that Mantega is an ex-minister with fixed address, and had never refused to provide explanations.

According to the information disclosed by the Federal Police on funds for bribe payment, the PT refuted the arguments. "All the party's financial transactions were strictly within the legal parameters and were subsequently declared to the Electoral Court."
