Lula hearing still to take place Wednesday
The date for the hearing of Brazil's former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, slated to take place tomorrow (May 10) in Curitiba, Paraná, will remain unchanged. The court ruling was issued by judge Nivaldo Brunoni, of the city of Porto Alegre, who denied the request filed by Lula's counsel.
The move by Lula's defense was made so that an estimated 100 thousand pages documents submitted by Petrobras could be analyzed. Lawyer Cristiano Zanin Martins argued the defense was having its rights abridged as the analysis of the documents before the questioning was “unfeasible.”
Matins's motion was denied by Brunoni, who claimed the collection of filed by Petrobras had been requested by Lula's defense itself.
Tomorrow's hearing will be the first official meeting between the former president and Federal Judge Sergio Moro. Lula will be questioned as defendant in the case opened as part of Operation Car Wash.
