"Poor" or "very poor" opinion of Temer gov’t up to 79%
An opinion poll released Thursday (Jun. 28) indicated that the percentage of confidence in the government of Brazilian President Michel Temer lowered from March to June from 8% to 6%. Conversely, the proportion of the people who believe that the remaining part of the current administration will be poor or very poor rose from 67% to 74%.
The survey was conducted by Brazil’s National Confederation of Industry (CNI) in partnership with private pollster Ibope.
The population’s discontent over the present government also increased. The percentage of the people who see Temer’s administration as poor or very poor went up from 72% to 79% of the 2 thousand respondents across 128 Brazilian cities. Renato da Fonseca, executive manager for research and competitiveness at CNI, noted that the indicator was at its highest in the Northeast and among young people aged 16 through 24.
The data with the worst government assessment are reported to have come as a result of a reduction in the number of people who considered Temer’s administration as OK (21% to 16%). The percentage of interviewees who referred to it as great and good also fell, from 5% to 4%.
Over 75% of the respondents also disapproved of the government’s policies and measures in all nine areas covered by CNI. The figures only showed a change in the list with the best-performing areas, with public security ranking third, with 14% of approval, preceded by environment (17%), and education (15%).
