In her speech on International Women's Day, the Minister of Women, Family, and Human Rights Damares Alves spoke about actions carried out by the ministry to improve the quality of life of Brazilian women. According to her, last year alone around BRL 236 billion ($ 47 billion dollars) were invested in policies aimed at women.

In the last three years, about 30 laws benefitting women have been enacted. Several social programs for women, such as housing and land tenure regularization, Emergency Aid, and Brazil Aid have been launched.

Damares Alves stressed the importance of fighting violence against women and said over BRL 600 million ($ 119 million dollars) shall be invested in the Plan to Combat Feminicide by 2023. Among other measures, 23 new homes for vulnerable women shall be built. Five different ministries are supporting the plan.

The minister also spoke about equipping and training police stations to assist victims of violence. “No woman will be left behind,” said the minister.
