President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke by phone on Monday afternoon (6) with King Charles III of the United Kingdom. The conversation took place around 3:30 pm and was included in the agenda released by the Planalto Palace. Among the subjects discussed, according to the president, are bilateral partnership and the environment.

"I have just talked on the phone with King Charles III of the United Kingdom. We talked about the desire to deepen partnerships and discussions between our countries on the climate issue and environmental protection," said Lula in a post on Twitter. The British king is known for having, over the past decades, been active in defense of environmental causes.

Charles, 74, became king automatically on September 8 of last year, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was in power for 70 years, the longest reign of the British throne. In May of this year, the United Kingdom will hold the official coronation ceremony of the new king. The Brazilian government has not informed whether Lula will attend the event.
