Brazil has 2,192 measles cases confirmed
Up to October 15, 2,1922 cases of measles were confirmed in Brazil, according to official figures released Wednesday (Oct. 17). Of this amount, 1,776 cases were identified in Amazonas, 33 in Roraima. The two states are located in north Brazil, and also have 7,894 cases being investigated.
Isolated cases of measles were reported in the states of São Paulo (3), Rio de Janeiro (18), Rio Grande do Sul (37), Rondônia (2), in Pernambuco (4), Pará (17), the Federal District (1), and Sergipe (4).
Also reported were 12 deaths linked to the disease, four of which in Roraima, six in Amazonas, and two in Pará.
Immunization
The Health Ministry also announced that 13.2 million doses of the MMR vaccine, against measles, mumps, and rubella have been sent to the states of Rondônia, Amazonas, Roraima, Pará, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, and Sergipe, in addition to the Federal District.
The goal, the ministry reported, is to meet the demand for routine services and bolster vaccination campaigns in a bid to prevent the further increase in the number of cases.
The ministry also stated that vaccination against measles has reached their 95 percent coverage in all states—the Federal District not included.
