COVID-19: Brazil breaks record with almost 300,000 cases in 24 hours

Brazil has broken the record for new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours, reaching 298,408 people. It has now registered 26,091,520 confirmed cases since the pandemic began, while the official death toll has risen to 630,001, according to Health Ministry data.

From Wednesday (Jan. 2) to Thursday (Jan. 3), health authorities confirmed 1,041 deaths. Such a high number had not been recorded since August of last year. 2,859,013 cases that have been reported in the last 14 days are still under follow-up. 

Recovered patients

22,602,506 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Brazil so far. The number corresponds to 86.6 percent of those infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

Brazil Ministry of Health updates, on a daily basis, all information sent by municipal and state health departments on cases and deaths associated with COVID-19.
