Agribusiness nearly half of July exports
Brazil's agribusiness exports amounted to $9.11 billion—49.2% of all of the country's sales overseas in July ($18.526 billion). During the month, imports in the sector reached $1.15 billion, or 7.12% of the national total ($16.147 billion). Figures reveal that the balance for agribusiness posted a $7.96 billion for July, a significant contribution to Brazil's $2.379 billion surplus in the balance of trade. The statistics come from the Ministry of Agriculture, and Supplies.
The data further indicate that, from January to July, agribusiness exports amounted to $52.37 billion (46.40% of the country's total sales) and imports totaled $8.21 billion—bringing the sector to a total $44.16 billion surplus, with the trade of balance at a positive $4.599 billion.
The secretary of International Relations for Agribusiness, Tatiana Palermo, said that five production chains account for the 84% of the total exported in the agribusiness sector in July: the soybean complex (43.2%), meats (16.1%), forest goods (10.6%), the sugar-alcohol complex (9.1%), and coffee (5.1%). She made special mention of the external sales of fresh chicken, which reached a record-breaking monthly figure for both value ($685 million) and quality (410 thousand tons).
