Rio hotel occupancy rate surpasses 96% for New Year's Eve
According to the latest survey by the Rio de Janeiro Municipality Lodging Union (HotéisRio), over 96 percent of hotel rooms in Rio de Janeiro are already booked for New Year's Eve. The union's president, Alfredo Lopes, stated that reservations remain strong and are expected to reach 100 percent by Tuesday (Dec. 31) in Copacabana and other neighborhoods in the South Zone.
Considering a longer period, from December 29 to January 1, occupancy stands around 85 percent, but nearly 88 percent in the Copacabana and Leme beaches, which host Brazil's most traditional New Year's Eve celebration.
The occupancy rates in other waterfront neighborhoods are also noteworthy. The regions of São Conrado, Barra da Tijuca, and Recreio dos Bandeirantes have reached an occupancy rate of nearly 87 percent, while Ipanema and Leblon have more than 84 percent of their rooms booked.
Rio's hotel network currently boasts around 50,000 rooms. While the city is a renowned tourist destination, Lopes emphasizes the need for continuous investment and the hosting of major events throughout the year, such as Rock in Rio and Madonna's concert, which drew large crowds to Copacabana beach last year.
