Brazilian women's soccer team to participate in championships

The participation of the Brazilian women's soccer team in the Paris Olympics in France is officially confirmed. On Tuesday (Jul. 26), exactly two years before the start of the 2024 Games, the Brazilian football team is the first one in the country to guarantee its presence at the event by classifying for the Copa América final, in Colombia.
In the semifinals, Pia Sundhage's team beat Paraguay 2-0 at Alfonso López stadium, in Bucaramanga, the same place where the continental title on Saturday (30) against the hosts will take place.
Besides the classification for Paris, Brazil is also classified for the next year's World Cup, in Australia and New Zealand. Unlike the Olympics, for which only the finalists would qualify, the top three in Copa América will go directly to the World Cup.
Brazil is the greater Copa América winner in women's soccer, with seven titles in eight editions, the last three being consecutive. It was only in 2006, when Argentina hosted the tournament and won the cup, that the Brazilian women´s team was in second place.
Besides Brazil and Colombia, the United States and the host - France - are entitled to participate in the Paris Olympics. The North Americans have been classified by winning the title of the North and Central Americas and Caribbean Championship on July 18 in Mexico, by defeating Canada - the current Olympic champion - 1-0 in the final.
