Brazil offers support for plane crash investigation in Colombia
The Brazilian government has offered Colombia the support from the Armed Forces teams of rescue and investigation to help investigate the crash of the Brazilian Chapecoense football team plane that killed 75 people in the early hours today (Nov. 29).
The team from the city of Chapecó, in Santa Catarina, was flying to Medellin, where they would hold their first final in the South American football cup against Colombia's Atlético Nacional, slated for Wednesday (30).
Defense Minister Raul Jungmann announced that Brazil is offering to Colombians a team from the Para-SAR (Airborne Rescue Squadron, with rescue teams) and from the CENIPA (Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center).
According to the minister, Brazil can only investigate the cause of the accident if requested, because the plane is Bolivian, and it is in a Colombian territory. Nevertheless, he announced that he will indicate a commission for following the case. Brazil's embassy in Bogotá is also working on the case.
Jungmann reported that a plane is going from Brazil to Medellín carrying relatives of the victims, Chapecó's Mayor Luciano Buligon, and members of the Ministry of Defense and of the Armed Forces. Another plane will bring the victims' bodies back to Brazil. The bodies are expected to arrive in Brazil tomorrow.
