Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security has created a working group aimed at drafting a national policy on immigrants, refugees, and stateless people, to be coordinated by Tatyana Friedrich, migration director with the National Justice Secretariat.

Group members will have 60 days to conclude the debate on immigration norms, local integration, the enforcement of rights, xenophobia and racism, representation, and international relations. A diagnosis will be sent to Justice Minister Flávio Dino and submitted to a public consultation.

At least five public meetings will be held, one in each region of Brazil, with the participation of immigrants, refugees, and stateless people, in order to support the creation of a unified policy in the area. State and local representatives tasked with welcoming immigrants and refugees will also be heard, preferably through their migration committees or councils.

Group members will not be remunerated for their participation, as the activities are considered a relevant public service.
